FERRYBRIDGE PROGRESSIVE  MAKE IT A DOUBLE AFTER WINNING THE CASTLEFORD SUNDAY LEAGUE PREMIER DIVISION.

Ferrybridge Progressive won the Castleford and District Sunday Cup at Pontefract Collieries. Old Castle had the first chance but Del Pollock's weak header was easily saved by Jamie Johnson, whilst at the other end Adam Tasker turned Paul Hegarty's long range effort over the cross bar. Alex Booth clipped the Castle's post from a dangerous free kick taken by Lee Waites, then Adam Tasker did well to deny Scott Whitham.  Hegerty's shot from distance came back off the cross bar as Ferrybridge struggled to get going. The first goal came just before half time, when Booth flicked on Shaun Oldfield's long throw and Johnstone impeded by a team mate could only palm the ball onto the head of Jamie Bird, who made no mistake.

After halftime Ferrybridge started a lot better. Oldfield blasted over from six yards after Pollock had done all the spade work. Johnstone made an easy save from a weak effort by Oldfield. Midway through the half, Bird beat two defenders to find the bottom corner after an excellent pass by Waites. Young Andy Mills was having a blinder for Ferrybridge and set up Oldfield, only for Johnstone to make the save. Old Castle struggled to make in-roads against Ferry's back line of Danny Clough, Nicky Reynolds, John Wilson and Eddie Wilson. Craig Tankard and strike partner Andy Burton had chances to give battling Castle a lifeline but both fired just over the cross bar. The match was excellently controlled by referee Mick Connell.
